NPS school board member submits resignation

NORFOLK, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska school board is going to have a vacancy right before the upcoming election.
According to the agenda for Monday's Norfolk School Board meeting, board member Jenna Hatfield-Waite has submitted a letter of resignation, effective immediately.
No reason was given for the resignation, but in her letter, Hatfield-Waite said she was "grateful for the opportunity to have worked with the countless leaders in this community who appreciate the vision of our city and public school system." She also thanked "those who have offered their guidance and commitment during (her) tenure".
Hatfield-Waite was elected to the board in 2020. Her seat is not one of the three that's up for election next month.
The opening will be filled by school board appointment. Superintendent Dr. Jami Jo Thompson is expected to put forward the timeline for filling Hatfield-Waite's spot on Monday.
