NORFOLK, Neb. -- A local school in the northeast part of Nebraska has named the latest recipient of the UnitedHealthcare Small Towns Matter Giveaway.

Grant Elementary, located in Norfolk, told News Channel Nebraska they found out on Tuesday that they won.

The benefits of the giveaway include brand new bicycle helmets for all the children and the school receives a check for $2,500.

The principal at Grant Elementary, Amy Brown, said she was caught off guard by the good news since she didn't even know the school was in the drawing.

“We had a teacher who submitted an application for us,” Brown said. “I was actually not aware of the application being submitted.”

She added the kids are going to be thrilled to be apart of the giveaway.

“They’re going to be extremely excited,” said Brown. “Our third grade students were the ones who participated in the interview with US92, and so the rest of the school didn’t even know that this was something that might be awarded to them. So, they’ll all be extremely excited.”

US92 has not yet announced when the giveaway will take place. News Channel Nebraska will be televising the event.

News Channel Nebraska and UnitedHealthcare serve as partners in the contest, in which several schools from across the state have been awarded bike helmets and financial support.
