WSC's Zacharias named NSIC South Division Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Wayne, Neb. --- Lauren Zacharias of Wayne State College was named late Tuesday morning as the Northern Sun Conference South Division Women’s Basketball Player of the Week by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota following her play in two Wildcat home wins over the weekend.
It’s the first time the 5'6'' senior guard from Iowa City West High School has collected NSIC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors.
Zacharias averaged 25.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.0 steals per game in victories over Winona State and Upper Iowa over the weekend. She started the weekend with 18 points, six assists and three steals in Saturday’s 77-68 win over Winona State and followed that with a 32-point performance Sunday, going 13-13 at the free throw line, with five steals and three assists in a 77-70 overtime victory against Upper Iowa.
For the weekend, Zacharias shot 58.3 percent (14-24) from the field and 6 of 10 (60 percent) from the 3-point line.
This season, Zacharias leads Wayne State in scoring (17.3) and rebounding (5.0). She is tied for third in the NSIC in points per game, second in 3-point field goal percentage (.433) and 3-point field goals per game (2.6), seventh in free throw percentage (.796), ninth in steals per game (2.1) and 10th in assists per game (3.1).
Wayne State is 9-2 on the season and tied for second in the NSIC South Division with a 5-2 league record. The Wildcats return to play on Saturday, December 31 hosting Augustana at 1:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
