NORFOLK, Neb. -- Both O'Neill and Norfolk have declared a snow emergency for Wednesday.

The City of O'Neill announced there is to be no parking on Emergency Snow Routes; and the remainder of the town is asked to only park on the odd number side of the streets.

Norfolk has declared a snow emergency that is in effect starting at 12 a.m. Wednesday until further notice.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for Madison County 6 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday.

The forecasted snowfall is expected to reach 6 to 12 inches.

The City of Norfolk said that no parking is allowed at all on cul-de-sacs and emergency snow routes; and on residential streets, the city asks that parking is only done on the even side of the street. It is, however, encouraged that citizens park off of the street if possible.

This allows for efficient snow removal by city crews.

Emergency snow routes include Benjamin Ave., Norfolk Ave. (except downtown), Omaha Ave., 1st St., 7th St., 13th St., 25th St., Pasewalk Ave., Elm Ave. (from 1st to 4th St.) Koenigstein Ave (from 13th to 16th St.), and Prospect Ave. (from 4th to 25th St.). Any vehicles parked on those streets are subject to towing.

Use extreme caution when traveling, and if possible, stay home and off the streets/roads. Check Nebraska511 for road conditions in your area.
