NORFOLK, Neb.-- Officials said the 911 Dispatch Center in Norfolk is experiencing an increase in hang-up phone calls.
Norfolk Police said this is not unique to the area as advances in cell phone 911 emergency calls have advanced. 911 centers all over the US are experiencing this.
Officials said if a 911 call is accidentally made, the person needs to stay on the line with the call-taker and explain that it was an accident.
Authorities said this will save valuable time for the dispatcher as they will attempt to reconnect to the 911 caller to see if there is an emergency. If no contact is made, officers are dispatched to the area where the call was made to check on the caller.
