Grace's Closet celebrates 25 years of community support in Stanton
Grace's Closet, a thrift store in Stanton, Iowa, marks 25 years of serving the community through affordable goods and contributions to local projects, all thanks to the vision of a local pastor
STANTON, Neb. — Nestled in the serene town of Stanton, Grace's Closet has quietly celebrated a quarter-century as a beloved thrift store, a milestone made possible by the vision of Cindy Stewart, a local Methodist pastor.
"She recognized the need for affordable clothing in our community," explained Kerijo Hansen, the manager of Grace's Closet. "So, 25 years ago, they started this little shop in a small building, and it has just grown over the years."
More than just a thrift store, Grace's Closet operates on a mission of community support. Every purchase contributes to local initiatives, embodying a cycle of giving that benefits the entire town of Stanton.
Grace's Closet has been instrumental in various community projects, including the Stanton Veterans Memorial. The store has also provided financial support for the local high school band and has pledged a generous donation towards a new community sports complex that will host softball games.
"Serving the community is a joy," Hansen shared, emphasizing the welcoming atmosphere of Grace's Closet. "We want people to know they're welcome here, and we love seeing new faces from all over the Stanton area."
Grace's Closet is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The store welcomes donations of almost any kind, provided they are clean and no larger than a nightstand or small chair.
