NORFOLK, Neb. -- King's Lanes and Sports Bar will be holding its annual This Shot Sucks Tournament on Thanksgiving morning.

The singles tournament will feature four games with a winning payout for one of every five bowlers with the highest pinfall, although these won't be your average shots.

"The shot in bowling refers to how we put the oil on the lanes, how you put the oil on the lanes can make bowling either easier or more difficult,” said General Manager Carter Olson.

The tournament is mostly for sanctioned bowlers, and will have to deal with a higher shot difficulty.

"So, it's a little more challenging in other words for some of our bowlers to bowl in it. They never know how their ball is going to react on the lanes until they get started bowling on this shot,” said Olson.

When coming up with the tournament almost eight or nine years ago, it was the anticipated bowlers' response that formulated the name.

"And we figured that a lot of our bowlers might make the statement, this shot sucks but it was fun, so that's kind of where the name came from,” said Olson.

The tournament will kick off at 10 a.m. with an entry fee of $30 dollars.

This Shot Sucks typically garners 30 to 50 participants but the public is welcome to come out and see for a fun holiday start.

"And then we can wish them a happy Thanksgiving at the same time, so that when they're done, they've bowled, they've had a good time, some of them made a little money and they can go enjoy their turkey,” said Olson.
