One pet killed in Monday night house fire in Norfolk
NORFOLK, Neb. -- While there were no human injuries during a Monday night house fire in Norfolk, a pet was killed in the fire.
On Monday around 6 p.m., the Norfolk Fire Department said they were dispatched to a house in the 700 block of W Prospect for a fire.
When the first units arrived, they said they found heavy smoke and ire coming from the south side of the house on the main floor.
NFD said that all of the house's occupants were out of the house/apartment when they arrived.
Crews said they were able to quickly extinguish the fire from the outside, and then they were able to make their way inside.
NFD said that salvage and overhaul operations were done along with the investigation.
The fire was determined to be from an electrical source in the kitchen area.
There were no injuries to firefighters, residents or bystanders, but one pet did die in the fire.
The Fire Department reported that there were no working smoke detectors in either of the apartments in the house.
One arial truck, one engine, one equipment truck, and two rescue units responded along with 20 plus firefighters.
The NFD said they were assisted by the Norfolk Police Division, Hadar Fire, NPPD, and Black Hills Energy.
NFD said they would like to remind everyone to have working smoke and CO detectors in their homes.
