SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. -- A crash in Dakota County killed one person and put two others in the hospital.

The Dakota County Sheriff's Office said officers were sent to mile marker 2 on Interstate 129 around 5:10 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of an accident.

Officials said the accident started with a stolen 2008 Toyota Camry, from South Sioux City. The Camry was reportedly going east when it ran into the center median barricade.

According to authorities, two civilians stopped to help the driver of the Camry. At the same time, another vehicle was reportedly going east and hit the Camry along with the other two people.

Police said one of the two civilians died while the other was injured. The second vehicle also collided with a third vehicle that was parked on the shoulder.

DCSO reported that the dead civilian was a 66-year-old man from South Sioux City. The other civilian and the driver of the second vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital.

According to authorities, the driver of the stolen Camry had fled the scene on foot.

Another accident was reported shortly after the previous crash but there were no serious injuries.
