The good news? The blizzard isn't hanging around as long in northeast Nebraska.

The bad news? It's still a blizzard.

The National Weather Service has shortened the blizzard warning in Antelope, Boone, Cedar, Knox, Madison, Pierce, Platte, Stanton, and Wayne counties to expire at midnight Tuesday.

Initially, the warning was slated to run through Wednesday morning.

Forecasters say the storm will be no less severe, though. Anywhere from 2-8" of snow is expected in northeast Nebraska, on top of a light glaze of ice accumulations. That, combined with wind gusts as high as 45 miles per hour, will make travel nearly impossible throughout Monday.

Rescue officials say travel should be restricted to emergencies only. Anyone who has to get on the road is urged to have a winter survival kit with them.

Once the blizzard warning expires, northeast Nebraska will be under a winter weather advisory until noon Tuesday.

The rest of Nebraska is not so lucky. Central Nebraska remains in a blizzard warning through 6 a.m. Wednesday.
