NORFOLK, Neb. -- News Channel Nebraska is receiving reports that the snow accumulation is too much for snow plows to keep up with.

NCN has received reports that snow plows cannot keep roads clear of snow, due to how fast it is falling.

Those same reports ask people to stay off the highways unless it is absolutely necessary.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation says parts of U.S. Highway 275 and Interstate 80, near Lexington, are closed due to crashes.

A part of I-80 was closed to traffic as workers try to clear up a jack-knifed semi.

The Nebraska State Patrol said they were working with the Nebraska Department of Transportation to get it off the road.

NSP said the high winds continue around icy roads.

I-80 was reportedly reopened around 1:05 p.m.

While other major roadways remain open in Northeast Nebraska, NDOT advises that they are completely or partially covered in snow.

Drivers who do brave the roads should be prepared for hazardous conditions and drive slowly.
