NORFOLK, Neb. -- Norfolk Public School has approved a new addition for its middle school building.

The $6,680,000 project with Huff Construction looks to add new classroom space, offices, and improve security in the building.

Board of Education member Teri Bauer said Monday's vote on the project has been a months-long journey to bring changes to the middle school.

"It's been a lot of hours and a lot of work," Bauer said. "It's important to me that the public knows we have been working really really hard on this project."

Bauer also said the cost of the project was under what they had initially budgeted for.

NPS initially had proposed using part of its tax levy to pay for the changes, but after community pushback, the board of education was able to rework its budget instead.

The project is expected to be finished by Nov. 30, 2025.
