Snow blamed for two accidents near Stanton
STANTON, Neb. -- The Stanton County Sheriff's Office said they responding to two accidents Tuesday morning due to weather.
The Sheriff's Office said that Tuesday morning's snow and ice caused multiple accidents and vehicles to go into the ditch.
Around 6:46 a.m., SCSO said they responded the an accident that was just east of the old Tony's Steakhouse on Highway 275 where a pickup had lost control while heading east and went across the opposite lane and rolling into the north ditch.
The driver, lone occupant, declined medical transport from Pilger Rescue who responded to the accident.
Seatbelts were in use, however road conditions were very poor at the time.
The driver was cited for not having a drivers license.
The second accident happened around 7:30 a.m. near the Highway 275 and 570th Ave intersection, about four miles west of Pilger.
SCSO said it happened when a pickup was heading west and lost control and crossed the eastbound lanes on the highway and hit a dirt embankment.
The driver in the second accident suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from the wreck.
In this accident, seatbelts were not in use, air bags did deploy, and the steering wheel was broken during the impact.
The Sheriff's Office said the driver was taken to a local hospital by Pilger Rescue for treatment.
Wisner Rescue also assisted at the scene.
