SIDNEY, Neb. — After months of anticipation, Sonny’s Super Snow Mountain officially melted Wednesday, leaving behind not just dirt and dust, but one lucky winner in the annual contest with radio stations 987 The Big Boy and Cheyenne County Country.

Tammy Kogl, of Sidney, was randomly selected from a group of seven finalists who correctly guessed March 12 as the day the towering snow pile at Sonny’s Super Foods would vanish. She picked up a $250 gift card to Sonny’s Super Foods, but rather than keeping it, Kogl immediately chose to donate it to Brennen and Jacki Block, parents of two-year-old Beckett Block, who is battling stage four cancer.

"I was ecstatic, and I had the Blocks in mind when I first thought about winning it," Kogl said. "I had it planned out. I'm Beckett Tough. I'm a big backer. They're great people."

Kogl, who has worked with Brennen at UPS for 17 years, said she has heard nothing but good things about Jacki and their family.

Kogl selected March 12 as her contest entry because it holds special significance—it's her only child’s birthday.

The Sonny’s Super Snow Mountain Contest, now in its third year, began Jan. 9, drawing over 500 registrations in just two weeks. The contest invites listeners to predict when the massive snow pile—formed after Jim Wieser of Wieser Construction cleared the Sonny’s Super Foods parking lot following a January snowstorm—would fully melt.

"People were taking photos and videos of the pile and sending them to us," said 987 The Big Boy Morning Show Host Hunter Arterburn. "It’s been a fun way to turn winter into a community-wide guessing game year after year. We appreciate Sonny’s Super Foods for partnering with us and joining in on the fun."

Previous winners include Kelsey Hauge (2024) and Susan Sutton (2023).
