Garfield site chosen for Lincoln's new Downtown Convention Center

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Assemble Lincoln, has announced that the Garfield Public/Private site as the convention center's location.
This decision follows an extensive process that began in fall 2023, building on two feasibility studies conducted by CSL in 2022 and 2023.
In July 2024, the Garfield site, located at S. 13th and M streets, along with the REV Development Site and the U.S. Post Office in the Haymarket, emerged as the top contenders.
The project has fostered collaboration among state leaders, local officials, and private partners, including Gov. Jim Pillen's office and Congressman Mike Flood's team. Together, they aim to create a vibrant meeting space that will serve as an economic catalyst for the community. Community feedback was essential to the site selection, with criteria focusing on site suitability, community integration, accessibility, and environmental impact.
Sen. Eliot Bostar emphasized the project's potential to drive economic growth and enhance tourism. Flood praised the selection of the Garfield site for its connectivity between the Haymarket and downtown areas. As development progresses, stakeholders will continue to engage the community in discussions about this exciting initiative.
