BEATRICE – A Wymore man was cited by authorities for animal neglect after a dog was found dead in a kennel found in the Big Blue River.

Gage County Sheriff’s Deputies were sent to an area around the Big Blue River Bridge at Blue Springs, Friday, March 21st.   They had received a report of a dead dog in the river.

Authorities took possession of the animal, turning it over to an animal control officer to transport to Beatrice.  Deputies investigating determined that a 34-year-old Wymore man had owned the animal…and he was questioned by authorities.

Shawn Sommerville told investigators the animal had died while at his home in Wymore….and that he took the dead animal, still in the kennel…and threw it in the river.

Sommerville was ticketed for violations of state laws regarding animal neglect and depositing a carcass in a waterway.
