Severe thunderstorm producing large hail continues through southern Nebraska panhandle

KIMBALL, Neb. – A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 8:15 p.m. for parts of western Nebraska, including northwestern Cheyenne County, northeastern Kimball County, southwestern Morrill County and eastern Banner County.
At 7:55 p.m., a severe storm was located 9 miles southeast of Harrisburg, or about 17 miles north of Kimball, moving northeast at 30 miles per hour. The National Weather Service reported that trained spotters observed half-dollar size hail, approximately 1.25 inches in diameter, 11 miles northwest of Dix.
Communities in the storm’s path include Kimball, Dix, Harrisburg, Kimball Municipal Airport and the Kimball County Fairgrounds.
The storm is expected to cause damage to vehicles due to the large hail. Residents in the affected areas are urged to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
