Columbus, Neb. -- On day 41 of the federal government shutdown, the Senate is in session to continue working toward a solution.

Lawmakers cleared a key hurdle toward potentially reopening the government by advancing a short-term funding bill by a vote of 60-40, just meeting the threshold for it to pass.

Congressman Mike Flood shared in Columbus on Nov 10 that getting the government back open is priority number one, and he plans to vote yes to reopen the government on Wednesday or as soon as there is an opportunity.

He also spoke on his disappointment on the previous failed votes and what he believes is hurting everyday Americans.

“We need to come together as a Congress and finish this off and just get back to work,” said Flood. “It's embarrassing to watch from an airport and see those TSA agents working for free basically, we're better than that as a country. So let's get the doors back open.”
