Norfolk Rescue Mission celebrates their special volunteer group with holiday party
NORFOLK,Neb.- After countless volunteer hours, the Norfolk Rescue Mission is celebrating the people who give their time and dedication.
The Rescue Mission serves three free meals a day. Developmentally disabled volunteers from Mosaic and Envision help clean up after meals.
Women’s Director Roxann Fox said day-to-day operations would not be the same without them.
“They’re very important and very valued, and I always want to make them feel like this is a great job and that we so appreciate them,” Fox said. “It gives them confidence and self-esteem.”
The Christmas party gives those who typically clean up after meals a chance to enjoy one without worrying about the mess.
It was clear many enjoyed the meal and each other’s company.
“With family,” said JJ Elsner.
“all of them,” said Tom Slenes.
Fox thinks their hard work is worth celebrating and plans to continue the annual party next year.
“I just want to celebrate because they come and serve with a servant’s heart,” Fox said. “They volunteer here in my dining room, and this is just a way to celebrate with them and have something fun today.”
After the meal, a game of bingo was played, with the winner shouting out the five-letter word.
“BINGO!”
