SIDNEY, Neb. — The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the entire Nebraska Panhandle, northeast Colorado and southeast Wyoming from Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon due to low humidity and gusty winds.

Forecasters say sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected Sunday. Relative humidity values are forecast to drop between 10 and 15 percent.

The National Weather Service warns that any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly under these conditions. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

A Fire Weather Watch means critical fire weather conditions are possible. Officials advise residents to monitor later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.

The extended forecast shows mostly sunny conditions Saturday with a high near 58. Sunday is expected to reach near 64 with south southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph. Widespread high winds and elevated grassland fire danger are possible Monday through Wednesday, with breezy to windy conditions continuing and highs in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Residents are urged to use caution with any activities that could spark a fire, especially in open or grassy areas.
