Panhandle teams set for NSAA boys basketball subdistrict play

Sidney, Ogallala, Bridgeport, Kimball, Leyton, Bayard and more tip off postseason play next week.

SIDNEY, Neb. — Boys basketball subdistrict play tips off next week across the Nebraska Panhandle, with area teams competing in Classes C1, C2 and D2 for a chance to advance in postseason action.

In Class C1-10 at Prairie View School, top-seeded Ogallala (20-0) awaits the winner of No. 4 Sidney (8-13) and No. 5 Mitchell (9-12), who play at 4 p.m. MT on Monday. No. 3 Chase County (11-12) meets No. 6 Chadron (9-14) at 5:30 p.m. the same day. Second-seeded Bridgeport (20-4) joins the bracket on Tuesday. The subdistrict final is set for 6 p.m. MT on Feb. 26. Sidney and Bridgeport games will air on Cheyenne County Country and 987 The Big Boy.

In Class C2-10 at Kimball, No. 1 Kimball (17-5) opens play Tuesday against the winner of No. 4 Dundy County-Stratton (17-5) and No. 5 Perkins County (10-10), who meet Monday. On the other side of the bracket, No. 3 Hemingford (14-6) hosts No. 6 Gordon-Rushville (11-11), with No. 2 Valentine (19-3) awaiting the winner. The championship game is scheduled for Feb. 26. 1043 KIMB will carry the Kimball games.

Class D2-10 at Leyton features No. 1 Leyton (14-5) taking on No. 4 Creek Valley (6-12) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. No. 3 South Platte (8-13) faces No. 2 Garden County (18-4) at 6:30 p.m. The final will be played at 6 p.m. MT on Feb. 26. All games will be carried on Cheyenne County Country and newschannelnebraska.com.

In Class D2-11 at Bayard, top-seeded Bayard (8-11) plays No. 4 Banner County (1-18) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. No. 3 Minatare (3-12) meets No. 2 Potter-Dix (12-11) at 6:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. MT.

Winners of each subdistrict will advance to district finals.
