NORFOLK, Neb. — U.S. Rep. Mike Flood previewed President Donald Trump’s upcoming State of the Union address, outlining priorities he said are important to Nebraska.

Flood said he expects the president to address the economy, identifying affordability as a top concern for families.

“Housing affordability is an issue that I know the president wants to tackle,” Flood said, noting that home prices have risen substantially since 2019 and the country's median age for first-time homebuyers is 40.

He also highlighted the housing bill he authored that recently passed the House with bipartisan support in a 390–9 vote.

Agriculture was also a key topic. Flood discussed efforts to advance a federal Farm Bill and expand year-round nationwide sales of E15 fuel, calling it important to Nebraska farmers, corn growers and the ethanol industry.

“It is time for year-round E15,” Flood said. “Congress needs to speak clearly. We need to support year-round E15, and the market will dictate what happens next.”

He said members of Congress plan to wear E15 buttons during Tuesday night’s address to signal support for year-round sales.

Flood said discussions on a long-term federal Farm Bill are continuing in Congress, with several major components still under negotiation. He said lawmakers are working to reach agreement on provisions that impact producers along with energy policy.

Flood added that upcoming legislative deadlines could require bipartisan cooperation.
