Fort Calhoun tops Bridgeport 60-51 to claim C1-7 district title

Fort Calhoun is headed to Lincoln. The Pioneers used a fast start to defeat Bridgeport 60-51 in the C1-7 district final. Bridgeport finishes the season 23-7.

FORT CALHOUN, Neb. — Fort Calhoun built an early lead and held off Bridgeport down the stretch to secure a 60-51 win Friday in the Class C1-7 district final.

The Pioneers (27-2) jumped out to a 14-4 advantage in the first quarter and never trailed, earning a trip to the Nebraska high school girls state basketball tournament in Lincoln March 4-7.

Ansley Elofson led Fort Calhoun with 13 points, while Isabel Wray added 12. The Pioneers went 16 of 34 from the free-throw line and overcame 27 turnovers to seal the victory.

Bridgeport was paced by Ellie Schluterbusch with 21 points. Koliviaierra Brown scored 12 and Reata Loomis added 10 for the Bulldogs, who finished 11 of 23 from the line and committed 23 turnovers.

Bridgeport closed its season at 23-7.
