Falls City-Sacred Heart Finishes Strong for 43-40 Win

FALLS CITY, NE - The Falls City-Sacred Heart Irish narrowly defeated the St. Mary's Cardinals in the District D2-3 Girls Basketball Final on Friday, 43-40, as heard on Otoe County Country. St. Mary's ends its season with a mark of 13-14, while FC-SH advances to the State Tournament at 18-8.

The Cardinals led after each of the first three quarters: 8-7, 22-17, and 30-27. The Irish put together their best offensive frame in the fourth, scoring 16 points and finishing with a 43-40 victory. A three-point attempt at the buzzer from St. Mary's banged off the front of the rim to secure the home victory for FC-SH.

The Knights were solid from downtown, hitting 6/19 from outside, and they rarely headed to the free throw line (1/3). Daycee Witt & Bailey Lemerond each dropped in 15 points for the Irish. Witt also had six rebounds & five assists. For the Cardinals, Gracie Williamson sunk 15, while Tatum Ickes hit for a dozen.

Falls City-Sacred Heart will be the 3-seed in the State Tourney & take on 6-seed Wynot on Wednesday, March 4, at 7:45p from the Devaney Center. We'll bring you that game on B103 & B103.FM!
