Nebraska Department of Labor hosting hiring events, workshops after Tyson closure

LEXINGTON, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Labor is hosting two hiring events and multilingual resume workshops this month to help workers affected by the recent Tyson Foods closure in Lexington.

The free events will take place at the Dawson County Fairgrounds and are designed to connect displaced workers with new employment opportunities and provide support during the transition.

The first event is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, from noon to 3 p.m., and will feature a hiring event with employers from multiple industries.

Additional events will be held Thursday, March 26, including resume writing workshops followed by another hiring event.

The schedule includes:

9-10 a.m. — Resume Writing Workshop (Spanish/English)
10-11 a.m. — Resume Writing Workshop (Somali/English)
12-3 p.m. — Hiring Event (Job Fair)

Officials say employers actively hiring will be present, and multilingual facilitators will be available to help workers during the workshops. Participation is free and no registration is required.

“These events are about opening doors, restoring stability, and helping people find meaningful employment as quickly as possible,” Nebraska Labor Commissioner Katie Thurber said. “We know this has been an incredibly challenging time for many families. Our priority is to ensure every displaced worker has the support, resources and opportunities they need to move forward with confidence.”

According to the Nebraska Department of Labor, attendees can expect resume assistance in English, Spanish and Somali, information about training programs and education pathways, and direct access to employers ready to hire. Agencies and organizations will also be available to assist workers and employers.

The Nebraska Department of Labor also says it is offering transportation options for Tyson workers who have become reemployed. More details will be released at a later date. Workers interested in the transportation options can contact [email protected] or get more information at the job fair.

Officials also reminded workers receiving unemployment benefits that they must file a weekly certification of eligibility through NEworks.nebraska.gov for payments to continue.
