5-year-old seriously injured in pedestrian crash in Norfolk
Child transported to UNMC after being struck by pickup truck Monday evening
NORFOLK, Neb. — A five-year-old child was seriously injured after being struck by a pickup truck Monday evening in Norfolk.
Officers with the Norfolk Police Division and Norfolk Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the 800 block of South 16th Street around 6:35 p.m. for a reported pedestrian and vehicle accident.
Police say the crash involved a pickup truck traveling northbound on South 16th Street. The driver and witnesses reported the vehicle was moving about five to 10 miles per hour at the time of the incident.
According to initial information, the child ran across the street and was struck by the vehicle. Police say the child was run over by the truck’s front driver-side tire.
The driver stopped immediately and attempted to provide aid.
Authorities say the child suffered serious injuries, including a possible broken leg and pelvic injury. The child was initially transported to Faith Regional Health Services and then transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha due to the extent of the injuries.
Police say the incident is still under investigation.
