Greg McDermott announces retirement from Creighton basketball program
Associate head coach Alan Huss will take over.
OMAHA, Neb. — The all-time winningest coach in the history of Creighton men’s basketball announced Monday that he's stepping away from the sidelines.
McDermott announcing Monday he will retire after the team finishes the College Basketball Crown tournament, ending a 16-year run leading the program.
The university says associate head coach Alan Huss will take over as head coach.
McDermott leaves as the winningest coach in program history, compiling a 365–188 record.
The Bluejays reached the NCAA Tournament 10 times, including an Elite Eight run in the 2022–2023 season and multiple Sweet Sixteen appearances.
McDermott also guided the program through its transition from the Missouri Valley Conference to the Big East Conference.
A news conference about the transition is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
