WAKEFIELD, Neb. — High winds continue to cause fire damage across the state. Northeast Nebraska was not exempt this weekend.

Wakefield firefighters put out a blaze on Sunday caused by wind speeds up to 58 miles per hour. The gusts threw two wire cables together, setting part of a field west of town on fire.

Local fire officials say the likelihood of similar events happening again throughout the area remains high if current wind trends continue.
