Douglas County reports record number of patients on ventilators

The number of COVID-19 patients on ventilators in Omaha has hit a record level.

OMAHA, Neb. -- The number of COVID-19 patients on ventilators in Omaha has hit a record level.

The Douglas County Health Department said Tuesday that of the current patients, 57 are on ventilators. That's the most ever reported on the county COVID-19 dashboard.

A year ago, 47 patients were on ventilators.

The number of ICU patients fell from 98 to 93, but up from 75 a week ago. Of those hospitalized with the coronavirus, 10 were pediatric COVID-19 patients.

The health department also confirmed 533 new positive COVID-19 cases in the past day.
