LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lincoln Police Department said an officer nearly lost consciousness during a struggle to arrest a suspect.
Around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, police were dispatched to an apartment complex near 12th and D Streets on a report of trespassing.
LPD said they were told a man was in the laundry room of the complex and was not allowed to be there.
According to police, officers made contact with the 39-year-old man and explained to him that he needed to leave.
Officers said while the man was walking away, they learned he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
While officers tried taking the man into custody, according to LPD, the man lunged at an officer and wrapped his arms around the officer’s neck.
LPD said other officers tried removing the man’s arms from the officer’s neck and there was a lengthy struggle.
Police said the officer started losing consciousness and a taser was deployed.
Officers were able to take the man into custody where he was then, per protocol, taken to a local hospital to be examined by doctors since a taser was used.
LPD said the officer who was assaulted declined medical treatment.
The man is facing assault on an officer charges, resisting arrest charges, as well as his warrant.
