Lincoln Public Schools announced last Friday that it’s canceling classes for students the next three Fridays starting with January 21st because of staffing shortages and large numbers of students missing school.

Several other schools in the area are fighting the same issues and implementing the same strategies.

Wahoo Public Elementary School is closing for the remainder of the week because of staffing and safety issues.

Beatrice Public Schools and Hastings Public Schools have also made the decision to close due to similar issues.

Beatrice Public Schools canceled classes for students Thursday and Friday.

Hastings Public Schools are canceling class on Monday, January 24th.

Grand Island Public Schools will be temporarily switching to a 4-day school week and is expected to last for the next 5 weeks. At that time GIPS will reevaluate the situation to see if it is possible to return back to normal a school week. This change will become effective this Friday, January 21st.

Teachers will still have to report at normal times for almost all schools implementing closures. This will allow planning and preparedness for the days to come.
