Madison County Historical Society budget tabled
The Madison County Commissioners choose to table to Madison County Historical Society's budget until March.
MADISON, Neb. --The Madison County Commissioners choose to table to Madison County Historical Society's budget until March.
The decision was made due to the ongoing discussions between the historical society, and the city of Madison on museum space. That decision isn't being made until the middle of February, which is why the commissioners pushed it back.
The budget for the historical society has been a topic of discussion since July of last year, after commissioners felt funds were being misused.
Troy Uhlir, chairman of the board for the commissioners said he did see them funding the society, and that both board and the historical society were in close agreement with one another.
"We've eliminated the trains and donations to non-profits that aren't them (from the budget). They've done a nice job of getting some hours of operation open 1:30-5:00pm Monday through Friday," Uhlir said.
Uhlir also expressed a desire to see more volunteers come and help the society.
"We're really hoping that we have some people in our county will step up and help them volunteer," Uhlir said. "Other than the funding the county gives them and then from donations or from memorials they really do no fund raising. So, In order to keep this open and operating it's a volunteer effort."
The budget will be discussed in the March 1st Madison County Commissioner's Meeting.
