NORFOLK, Neb. -- An estimated 750 people, including over 500 students, participated in a protest against abortion on Friday afternoon in Norfolk.

The annual March for Life brought several students from multiple school districts to Norfolk Catholic.

Janice Christensen, president of Norfolk Area Right to Life, helped organize the event as part of a local committee. She said the plan had initially been for many of the students to travel to Washington for the national march before COVID-19 concerns force them to keep the rally closer to home.

Christensen said the rally began in March of 2020 with about 500 in attendance and had grown by about 50 percent by this year's march.

"We are grateful to the students and community members' commitment to protecting life," Christensen said.

The march was part of a collection of similar protests across the nation.
