NORFOLK, Neb. -- A local fire department took a day to the lake to practice some ice rescue training today.

Members of the Norfolk Fire Division donned their ice command rescue suits and practiced rescuing each other in the icy cold waters of Skyview Lake.

According to York University, over four thousand people have fatally drowned falling through the ice in the last 26 years.

Officials recommend wearing a life jacket and bright-colored clothing while out on the ice as well as never venturing out on your own and letting someone know where you're going.
