NSP investigating after collision involving Madison County Sheriff's deputy

MADISON, Neb. -- An investigation is underway after a Madison County Sheriff's deputy was involved in a two-vehicle crash on Saturday.
According to Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk, a deputy in a marked patrol car collided with a Dodge pickup on Highway 275, near the 543 Avenue intersection just outside of Meadow Grove, just before 9:00 a.m.
The driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Battle Creek Rescue. The deputy sheriff also sustained minor injuries and was later treated at Faith Regional Health Services.
According to Nebraska State Patrol Public Relations Director Cody Thomas, the deputy saw a vehicle speeding in the opposite direction. The deputy prepared to make a U-turn, Thomas said, but was struck from behind by the other vehicle.
Due to the fact that a Deputy Sheriff was involved in the accident, the Nebraska State Patrol handled the accident investigation. Further investigation is pending.
Highway 275 was shut down to one-lane directed traffic for approximately one hour.
No further information was made immediately available.
