Wayne man facing DUI, drug charges after crash

A 31-year-old Wayne man was arrested after a Friday night crash in Norfolk.

NORFOLK, Neb. -- A 31-year-old Wayne man was arrested after a Friday night crash in Norfolk.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Norfolk Police responded to a one-vehicle accident in the 1500 block of N. 1st Street. The reporting party stated that a vehicle had been driving westbound on Northeast Industrial Highway and then south bound on 1st St, swerving on the road and then into a ditch.

According to an NPD press release, an officer had contact with the driver, who was identified as Adelio Munoz-Lopez, 31 of Wayne.

During this contact, the officer stated that they could smell alcohol coming from Munoz-Lopez, who was then asked to perform field sobriety maneuvers and to submit to a test of his breath.

According to NPD, the results showed that he was over the legal limit to drive. In a search of his vehicle, officers reportedly recovered a glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Munoz-Lopez was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, first offense,
and possession of a controlled substance. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
