Norfolk shelter saves dogs from Texas
NORFOLK, Neb.-- Saving the lives of innocent animals in need.
On Wednesday at the Norfolk Regional Airport, five dogs were flown in from Texas thanks to an organization called ‘Pilots N Paws'.
It’s a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing, sheltering, and adopting animals along with volunteer pilots and plane owners willing to assist with animal transportation from places that can’t afford to take care of the animals.
“What it is, those pilots volunteer and kinda sign up through the organization. Other shelters will request a transfer and the pilots will volunteer for each particular trip,” said Lisa Doescher, who is the shelter manager at the Animal Shelter of Northeast Nebraska.
The pilot who flew the dogs in, Andrew McClintock, talked about being a part of the organization and why he volunteers.
“The organization does a good job at taking these animals out of kill shelters and bringing them to places like Nebraska where they will find their forever home,” McClintock said.
Not only were these animals possibly saved from places that couldn’t take care of them, but the animal shelter in Norfolk said Nebraska has a good track record of finding these animals great homes.
“We have really good luck adopting the animals out and finding them a good home. All of them go to approved adopters,” added Amber Anderson, who is the Fundraising Manager at the Animal Shelter of Northeast Nebraska.
Both Doescher and Anderson expressed their emotions for not only the 'Pilots N Paws' organization but also for them knowing these animals will go to a great home in the future.
“It means the world to all of us and entire shelter. We’re not very big, there are seven of us total. But it means so much to us and makes our hearts so full to be a part of this because without us and without the other shelters, the dogs don’t survive,” Doescher said.
“It’s really awesome to be able to reach across state lines and bring some of the animals that are in tougher times to us so we can give them an amazing life,” said Anderson.
