The North Fork Area Transit and Ponca Express hosted a public open house on Wednesday evening at the Ponca Express Transit Facility to discuss and get public input on a proposed coordinated transit facility that would meet the growing transit needs of Norfolk and neighboring communities.
Corinne Donahue, who is a part of the Nebraska Mobility Management Team for the Nebraska Department of Transportation, talked about why the open house was important.
"The main reason we’re working on this study and this facility design is both North Fork Area Transit and Ponca Express are at capacity at their facilities today. So, we know we have to do something and this is just a first step on obtaining federal and state funding as we go forward,” Donahue said.
Jeff Stewart, who is the General Manager at the North Fork Area Transit, explained why getting public feedback is critical for a project like this.
“Community engagement and feedback is very important because as we look to build a partnership throughout the community. The feedback of all of our residents is something we take very seriously and we want to know what their thoughts are,” said Stewart.
This project is part of the North Fork Area Transit's flex route study, which is seeking to coordinate and improve transportation options in the Norfolk community.
