WSC softball staying confident amid losing streak
WAYNE, Neb.-- The Wayne State softball team hasn’t gotten off to the start it wanted this season.
But, the team is staying positive amid a six-game losing streak.
“As of right now, we’re growing. We've had a lot of growing moments. Not the results that we want but we’re taking a lot of the positives and learning from a lot of the negatives,” added Kortney Buresh, who is a senior on the team.
Others on the team added on.
“We’re staying positive and focusing on the little things because ya know, in life, you fail more than you succeed especially in this game,” Paiton Tornberg said, who is a junior for the Wildcats.
Part of the struggles over the past couple of seasons has been in part to how young the Wildcats are.
But, Shelli Manson, who is the head softball coach, wants people to know the team is working hard to learn from its early-season mistakes to get better.
“We’ve had a few of them where they’ve been just sheer mental errors and those are very fixable for us. We’re going to do exactly what we’re doing right now and just get outside, which is great, and we have a script of things we need to work on and we need to apply those things in the games,” added Manson.
On Friday, the team will travel to Florida to play a total of 10 games down in the sunshine state.
Manson talked about how excited they are to travel and compete against different teams from different states.
“Florida at times is the first time they get to play without an extra amount of the elements and we probably won’t have that when we get back. But, for that week, they get to play in sunshine and no classes. It’s just kind of a real vacation for them,” Manson said.
The Wildcats will take on Lewis University on Sunday at 8 am.
