PIERCE, Neb. -- A house fire broke out in Pierce Friday evening. 

Pierce Fire Department was called to a house fire at 8:16 p.m. Friday at 115 East Court Street.

Pierce Fire Chief Steve Dolesh said that it was a single-family, two-story house, and by the time they arrived the second floor was burned through with the fire moving to the first-floor. 

Dolesh said that the fire was started by an unattended candle on the second-floor, an accidental fire in nature.

The amount of damage the fire left, totaled the house. 

There were two people home at the time of the fire. Dolesh said that they both made it out safely, and they were checked out by the medical unit and cleared. 

Dolesh said that the fire department had the house fire under control in 20 minutes, but they stayed on scene until 12:05 a.m. 

Other responding units included Osmond Fire Department, Hadar Fire Station, and Plainview Volunteer Fire Department. 

Chief Dolesh said that he would also like to recognize the State Fire Marshal - who was on scene, Pierce Police Department, Pierce County Sheriff, Pierce Utilities, Pierce Water Department, Black Hills Energy, and American Red Cross for their help with the fire.
