Wakefield man receives sentence for crimes against children

Authorities have sentenced a Wakefield man for crimes against children.

PONCA, Neb. -- Authorities have sentenced a Wakefield man for crimes against children. 

Dixon County District Court sentenced 27-year-old Jose Fregoso to 18 years for crimes against ten children. 

The Court said the Fregoso pled no contest to three counts of possession of visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct, five counts of child abuse, and one count of third-degree sexual assault of a child.

The Dixon County Sheriff's Office, the Nebraska State Patrol, the Nebraska Attorney General's Office, and the Dixon County Attorney's Office assisted in this case. 

Fregoso was charged with sucking on the toes of at least nine children and other sex acts in August 2021. 

Under state statute, Fregoso had faced a possible maximum penalty of 81-years in prison.
