Brief blast of wind causes damage in Pierce County
A brief rush of wind caused havoc in northeast Nebraska Wednesday afternoon.

PLAINVIEW, Neb. -- A brief rush of wind caused havoc in northeast Nebraska Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 2:45 p.m., high winds hit Plainview, Pierce and Norfolk, among others.
According to the National Weather Service, a 64 mph wind gust hit the area. It was unique, NWS officials said, because it was not accompanied by a storm or rain.
News Channel Nebraska chief meteorologist Geoff Fox said slow-developing storms in northeast Nebraska may have been a contributing factor.
The 2:45 blast of wind happened when there was weak rotation, NWS officials said. The wind caused damage to a Plainview business's roof, in addition to knocking down powerlines in the area.
