LINCOLN, Neb. -- If It’s spring, it’s farmers market season, and Lincoln’s longstanding Haymarket Farmers Market is under way with jam packed stalls and throngs of people.
Lines at the food booths were particularly long Saturday morning, as attendees searched for a cool drink and a food trip.
The Lincoln Public Schools Steel Band entertained an enthusiastic and appreciative crowd in Iron Horse Park.
With 2022 being a political year, folks heading to the street event were greeted with opportunities to sign petitions intended to put various issues on the November ballot. This Saturday, a group of people were circulating petitions to increase Nebraska’s minimum wage. The campaign to legalize medical Marijuana has announced it also intends to offer market-goers the opportunity of signing a petition to place that issue on the fall ballot.
While individual campaigners were not easy to spot on Saturday, especially as they reboot from primary campaigns, organizers said many seeking political office will also be expected on the streets of Lincoln in coming weekends ahead of this year's general election.
