Lincoln man arrested after allegedly lighting items on fire in apartment

A 43-year-old man is in custody after a roommate reported that he was trying to light various items in their apartment on fire with a handheld torch.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A 43-year-old man is in custody after a roommate reported that he was trying to light various items in their apartment on fire with a handheld torch.

Officers from the Lincoln Police Department were called to the 1500 block of S. 19th Street after receiving a reports of arson.

The caller described their roommate acting strangely and lighting various items in the apartment on fire with a handheld torch.

Arriving officers located Justin R. Armstrong with the handheld torch.

Armstrong was taken into custody, with the arresting officers believing he was under the influence of a controlled substance.

Several items in the apartment were damaged by fire, including doors, electrical features, a chair, and some other items. Total damage was estimated at $2,000. The building is a 25-unit complex.

Armstrong was evaluated at an area hospital, then lodged in jail for Arson and Possession of Controlled Substance.
