NORFOLK, Neb. -- "It's an extremely tragic situation," said Nate Raabe.

He's known the Lantz family for years.

They're known in Wisner for outgoing personalities, competitive wrestling, and the beloved Lantz Steakhouse.

"When you were younger you knew who those guys were - - I wrestled at Wisner so we have that tie," Nate Raabe said.

The oldest Lantz son is in the same class at Raabe's son, and Tara Lantz taught Raabe's daughter.

"They are just super outgoing and super involved. With the Pilger family last year they donated a lot, too [...] Tara was always squeezing into the state wrestling games getting photos in between the chaos," said Raabe.

Unfortunately, on May 14th, Tara and Curt Lantz Jr. were hit by an alleged drunk driver -- killing Tara and injuring Curt.

"The community is obviously devastated," Raabe said.

Now, Curt is facing around 40 stitches and a heartbroken family.

"I think he's focusing on work now to keep busy," Raabe said.

Now, northeast Nebraska is helping to raise thousands of dollars for them.

Raabe set up a GoFundMe that's already raised almost $10,000. Many others have sent large gifts through Citizen State Bank to help pay medical expenses.

"The response here is incredibly strong," Raabe said.

There will also be a fundraiser on June 18th for the family.

In the meantime, friends have one message for others who think it might be ok to drive a little tipsy.

"It's pretty easy to catch a ride from someone else," Raabe said.
