LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska football snared its latest recruiting commitment Monday morning.

Texas native Riley Van Poppel committed to the Huskers, making his announcement via Twitter, just days after visiting the Huskers.

The defensive lineman stands 6-foot-4 and 270 lbs.

"I want to say how grateful I am to be blessed by God to be put in the position I am in. Without Him, none of those would be possible,"  Van Poppel wrote in his announcement. "And I want to say thank you to my family for always being there for me and supporting me and my dreams ever since I can remember. I want to thank my coaches for the effort and love they have showed me throughout my high school career. And lastly to my teammates and friends, the endless support from y'all means more than you will ever know. With that being said, I want to announce that I am committed to the University of Nebraska!!"

He is the eighth commitment for the Huskers in the 2023 recruiting cycle. He is the son of former Major League Baseball pitcher Todd Van Poppel, who played for the Athletics, Tigers, Rangers, Pirates, Cubs and Reds during his MLB career.
