'Oldest in the US' Winnebago homecoming welcomes all to 156th
Did you know Nebraska is home to the most long-standing homecoming celebration in the country?

WINNEBAGO -- The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska is preparing for a grand celebration, July 28 through 31st.
Did you know Nebraska is home to the most long-standing homecoming celebration in the country? That's according to Sunshine Bear, the cultural preservation director of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska.
"It's like when you are gone from home for a long time and then you walk into the house," Bear said of what it's like to have so many community members with connections unite. "It's the 156th, so it's the oldest in the U.S."
For the past two years, homecomings in Winnebago were restrictive, with only community members invited, and each visitor having to prove vaccination. But this year, the Winnebago Tribe is inviting everyone for the 156th homecoming. Guests do not need a vaccination card.
The celebration honors Hochunk soldier Chief Little Priest, and all veterans.
Bear noted, that veterans will play a huge part in the celebration, as they always do.
