NORFOLK, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska teen is in custody after he reportedly refused to accept multiple citations, fled on foot and damaged a police cruiser with a skateboard.

On Wednesday morning at 8:13 a.m., a business in the 100 block of E. Norfolk Avenue reported that someone had stolen several frozen pizzas and chips by concealing them in a backpack.

The employee stated that the suspect ran westbound from the store and could be spotted near the intersection of 1st Street and Norfolk Avenue.

Officers located the suspect with a skateboard near 2nd Street and Park Avenue.

The 18-year-old suspect was given a citation for shoplifting, which he reportedly refused to sign. He then allegedly crumpled it up and threw it on the ground, according to Norfolk Police Capt. Michael Bauer. The responding officer then issued a citation for littering, which the teen reportedly also refused to sign.

According to Bauer, the officer then placed the citation in the teen's backpack and told him to leave the scene. At that point, according to Bauer, the teen spat on the marked cruiser, picked up his skateboard and struck the windshield of the police cruiser, before fleeing on foot.

The teen was arrested for criminal mischief and obstruction of a police officer. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
