NORFOLK, Neb. -- A northeast Nebraska man is in custody after a burglary investigation Tuesday.

Norfolk Police responded to a report of an overnight burglary at a business in the 2000 block of W. Pasewalk Avenue on Tuesday.

According to NPD, the suspect was captured on surveillance video breaking into a drawer that contained a cash box and removing the cash. Norfolk Police Capt. Michael Bauer said the video showed a suspect with a distinctive neck tattoo.

Staff told police that they suspected the suspect was part of the nighttime cleaning crew.

When officers made contact with the cleaning company, staff reportedly identified the man as a former employee of the company, 47-year-old Gonzalo Amescua.

Officers reached out to Amescua later in the afternoon. Bauer said Amescua matched the person in the video along with having the same distinctive neck tattoo.

Amescua was arrested for burglary and was housed in the Norfolk City Jail. He will later be transferred to the Madison County Jail.
