NORFOLK, Neb. -- A 50-year-old northeast Nebraska man was arrested for an alleged domestic violence incident in Norfolk Tuesday night.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., Norfolk Police officers responded to an apartment on Walnut Avenue.

According to Norfolk Police Capt. Michael Bauer, arriving officers found a woman with dried blood on her hands, chest and face. Bauer said the woman's nose was swollen and appeared broken.

Norfolk Rescue responded, but the woman refused transport to the hospital at that time. She stated that she was assaulted by Michael D. Hanson, 50, of Norfolk.

The woman stated that she and Hanson had been in a verbal argument that escalated to him striking her in the face. She was able to leave the apartment before
officers arrived, according to NPD.

Officers then made contact with Hanson in the apartment and spoke to him about the reported incident.

Blood droplets from the woman's injury were found inside and outside of the victim’s apartment, Bauer said.

Hanson was arrested for third-degree domestic assault. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
